4th June 2015

Dear Parent/Carer,

I trust that your half term break went well. We are hopefully in for a spell of warm weather so please ensure that you apply sun block to your child and supply a hat! (OK I’m being optimistic)

There have been and will be lots of exciting events taking place over the next few weeks-so please check the website and Schoop as frequently as you can.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROVISION –SEPTEMBER

Some exciting news ! We will be able to offer our after school facility starting from September of this year.

This means that you will be able to leave your child on the premises immediately after school until 5:45 Monday to Friday. And from October half term we will be able to extend the provision until 6:15. We are also hoping to be able to provide Holiday Care for half term and the Christmas period.

Your child will be in the safe and secure care of experienced and qualified adults accessing a variety of activities- physical and creative as well as relaxing and ‘chilled.’ All children will also receive a snack and a drink. The facility will be based in our old and new halls as well as our Learning Lounge and the outdoors.

Children have come up with a name for the provision which is: SAPLINGS (Thanks to Luke Tricklebank!)

Costs will be: £9:50 for the whole session and £7.50 for the first hour.

We will not be able to accept Childcare Vouchers until after October.

If you wish to enrol please contact our Care Director: Kath John on: 07903433883

Or email on kath_john @live.co.uk

Newsletter 21/5/15

21st May 2015

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you have had chance to look at our Inspection Report and seen the article in the Penarth Times. We extremely pleased with the report, but there are challenges ahead. I would simply like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. Working in partnership with parents is extremely important and although as a Head I know you can never please everyone all of the time, I would like to think that our efforts please most, most of the time!

Tomorrow is an INSET day and staff and Governors will be meeting to discuss the Inspection Report and evaluate where we are and how we can continue to improve. Part of our discussion will centre on how to develop the Welsh Language and extend opportunities for Numeracy across the Curriculum. However, we will also be looking at ICT and how to build on Inspectors’ comments.

We are interested in a possible parent ‘Tablet leasing scheme,’ so that every child has use of exactly the same device to support learning in school and at home. Initial enquiries indicate that we could offer parents the chance to lease a device for £40 -£50 per annum over three years, with full insurance included. More details to follow, but any thoughts would be welcome.

A plea!

As I’m sure you are aware, Mrs. Esseen is in hospital and unlikely to return before September. I am sure you will join me in wishing her a swift recovery. Her absence means that we are a member of staff ‘down’ and since we could not afford sickness insurance for support staff this year, we are having to operate without a replacement. This means that the Office team is under pressure. Please help us by:

  • Ensuring your child is not late for school (Time consuming for Office staff)
  • Ensuring your child arrives with all equipment/ lunch/kit etc (Office staff frequently have to interrupt what they are doing to deal with parents ‘dropping’ forgotten items in.)
  • Ensuring your child knows exactly where they are going after school –before arriving in school.(Office staff are frequently asked to pass messages on about changes to ‘pick up’ and this is also very disruptive.)
  • Ensuring that you collect your child on time at the end of the day.

Thank you for your support.

Evenlode Book Day

As part of the launch of Evenlode book fayre, we are having an ‘Evenlode Book Day’. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. This will take place on Friday 5th June. In light of recent publicity, characters should be from children’s books and costumes do not have to cost a lot of money! In addition to this, over half term we are asking children to ‘dress a potato’ as a character from their favourite book or comic. Entries will be judged at the end of the first week after half term.

After school football and rugby clubs/cricket …and success!

This week was the last week for the Year 5/6 after school football and rugby clubs. They will re-commence again during the autumn term. We would like to thank all those children who have participated throughout the year. Cricket club will now begin after half term. It will take place every Tuesday from 3.30-4.30pm.

Congratulations to the Y6 Soccer team which won the Victoria competition last week and also to Lewis Ingram and Ben Mulcahy who represented the Vale cricket team yesterday. Further congratulations to Ben on his selection for the National Team.

A massive well done also goes to Evan Jones and Ethan Barry for their part in the Welsh Cup winning Vale team which beat Pontypool in the final last week.

NASA Trip

Over half-term Miss Morris will be accompanying 3 children from Year 6 on a trip of a life-time to Florida, to visit The Kennedy Space Centre! If you want to follow their adventure then log on to the front page of the school website for daily updates and photos/videos.

Have a relaxing half term!
